Where Demons Hide

about

Four years have passed since Deerborn released their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Crash and Burn’ and now the Danish rockband is ready with new songs.

The band has undergone a clear development and 'Where Demons Hide' signals a much harder expression and sound. The group's dark americana on the debut has gained new textures, a deeper gulp and a constant alluring darkness.

'Where Demons Hide' smells, sews, implodes and explodes to an extent, so Deerborn's inspiration from Neil Young and Pearl Jam has now been joined by both Rage Against the Machine and Grinderman.

The darkness continues to be present in Deerborn's music, where the explosively expressive and the smoldering entrapment are strong additions in the new songs when the experienced band yanks everything out of the quiet-loud dynamics.

Ask Fogh's bass wrapped in fuzz and Dennis Winterskov's dragging drums lays a solid bottom that the other roles fill out. Daniel Buchwald's guitar taps into the cold-struck soundscape in a dazzling chaotic harmony with Lasse Nørby's vocals, which as soon as it sets in, release the desperation, sets the music free and captivates the listener.

"The time is now!" the band proclaims in the lyrics - A line that symbolically signals that Deerborn is heading towards a new and exciting time in the band's history.

lyrics

There’s a faceless soldier on a violent spree
And he wears his shame for all to see
Causin’ broken homes and families
And wounded souls left to bleed

And bullets fly
Fathers die
Where demons hide
Children cry

There’s a motherless child outside my door
Oh I swear I've seen her face before
She’s got Eyes like knives that cuts through all
My blood is drippin’ on the concrete floor

And bullets fly
Children die
Where demons hide
Mothers cry

Too many hands washed clean in widows' tears
Too many echoed gunshots ringing in ears
Too many hearts frozen numb and silent from fears
There’s a hope too distant, like endless years
Too many minds are lost to demons care
Too many souls left stuck in passive stare
Too many poison clouds soaks through the air

Oh hope so distant, my sons beware
These winds keep blowing from a hurricane
In the frightened hopeless lands remain
Where the lions bark and the wolves are insane

And we all dance in the bloody rain
We all dance in the bloody rain

And the bullets fly
And children die
Where demons hide

Step up!
Or back down!
It’s now!
The time is now!
